Bryan Adams!

I got the opportunity to meet Bryan Adams last night at his concert in Port Elizabeth! Thanks Bryan for giving me the opportunity to meet you and for helping in sharing the message about Rhino poaching. Let us all make a concerted effort in spreading the message where ever we are.

So today is the last day of the competition organised by Cape Union Mart in support of the great work done by the Endangered Wildlife Trust. Thanks everyone for supporting me thus far and who knows what the future holds for me. Hopefully we have reached a few people that can make a real change in this battle to protect the Rhino!

42 Rhino's Dead and Counting

2013 was a bad year for Rhino’s as there was a total of 1004 poaching incidents in South Africa alone. This is up from 668 in 2012 and 448 in 2011. There is also no sign of it slowing down as this year already has 42 on its tally.

A lot of awareness is being done locally but it seems that this does not help much. It is important for all of us to spread the word and actively get involved in helping. Now you ask yourself how you can get involved. Simply by not buying rhino products; donating time, money or products to companies that actively assist in preventing rhino poaching and by helping spread the word. Easy!

I am part of a competition that tries to achieve exactly that which is one of the reasons for writing this letter. If I win it, there will be R20 000 for The Endangered Wildlife Trust. If I don’t win they will still get it from someone else. In the meanwhile though we, all the contestants, have created awareness for these awesome creatures called Rhinos.

Hopefully it will mean something in the long run.

First time at the movies

Yesterday was the first time for me and Kaden at the movies! We watch Frozen which is quite appropriate when you see what is happening in the USA at the moment. Luckily we are in Africa! Ate popcorn for the first time, sure beats grass and leaves.

Centrestage

I had the awesome experience of having been part of four live concert events and being on stage with Centrestage this December. I even played the drums! The first was at the PE Golf club on the 14th of December which I posted earlier. The others was on the 22nd in Port Alfred, the 27th at the Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex and the 31st at Mpekweni. What a thrill to be on stage and what fun it was. Thanks Terry for making me part of the team!

Christmas Party at Holmeleigh Farmyard

I attended a Christmas Party at Holmeleigh Farmyard organised for 230 orphans. It was such an awesome experience seeing all the happy faces in what must be such a sad time in their lives not having a family to spend it with. I guess they are all family to each other.

The Endangered Wildlife Trust also has a Rhino Orphan Response Project which increases the chances of survival for the orphaned rhinos. See http://www.ewt.org.za/programmes/LPP/orphans.html for more info.

Science Centre

Spend most of the day at the Nelson Mandela Bay Science Centre in Uitenhage. Really enjoyed all the displays and playing with the kids (and some adults).
